On The Trail of ALASKA! 
These must be juvenilles, or they\’ve been swimming in muddy water. 😉 Wonderful feather detail and I love the synchronized drips off the bills. They look like you\’ve caught their attention. Is it you or the click of the camera? I find the Canada Geese are drawn to the click click click.

The coloration on the head and neck is an indicator of the minerals in the water they feed in (iron is common), these are adults.
I had sat there for a long time and I verbalized to them (honked my most swany honk LOL) before they decided to come in this close.
I never know what it is, but I enjoy encounters like these way much!

I also like "talking" to the animals (mostly ducks and swans over here) … it makes me feel as if I were part of that "natural" world and not so much the "civilized ??!! human" world … LOL !!!
Juveniles have a greyish color in Belgium (and they are not the same species either : we have mute swans, Cygnus olor – are yours Bewick swans ??) and as said previously they "sit" higher on the water than your Alaskan friends.

I want to ammend my comment about these swans.
I have looked through my books and last fall\’s photos, and I now think these are young adults or sub adults, maybe 2 1/2 year olds.
The distinct black bill is that of an adult, but the grey plumage seems more than the typical coloration from feeding on plants that are in iron rich waters. What a challenge this is LOL
That\’s my kind of fun right there … floating along peacefully … water\’s probably a little colder than I prefer.
